OVERVIEW

Mount Lhotse, with an elevation of 8,516 meters / 27,940 feet, is located on the boundary between Nepal and the autonomous region of Tibet in China. The summit is part of the Mahalangur Range and Khumbu Subrange. Lhotse, which is its most frequent name in Tibetan, is the fourth highest mountain in the world. This mountain was initially identified as the south peak of the Everest massif. The summits of Mount Lhotse and Mount Everest are connected by the South Col, a ridge at an elevation of about 25,000 feet.

Mount Lhotse was first climbed on May 18, 1956 by Fritz Luchsinger and Ernst Reiss from Switzerland. The usual climbing route for Mount Lhotse is the same path as that of the South Col of the Everest route beyond Camp 3 of the Yellow Band.

This mountain draws a significant number of visitors each year due to its prominence and proximity to Mount Everest. Some come to trek up to the base camp located on a moving glacier at 5,200 meters from sea level, while others attempt to climb it.

Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including pine and hemlock forests, fir, juniper, birch, and rhododendron woods, scrub and alpine plant species. It also hosts several rare and endangered species such as the elusive snow leopard, red panda, Himalayan black bear, musk deer, and many species of birds.

The Sherpa people have inhabited the region for the last four centuries. Their unique culture is interwoven with the teachings of Buddhism and can be seen in the monasteries across the region.

We expect all participants in our Lhotse Expedition to have prior experience climbing several 6,000m and 7,000m peaks, as well as at least one 8,000m peak. This experience is essential to prepare you for the intense physical and mental demands of high-altitude mountaineering.

When you sign up, PK and our team will carefully review your climbing history and evaluate key performance metrics. Based on this assessment, we may recommend additional training or preparatory climbs in the months leading up to the expedition. This ensures you are fully prepared for the challenges of Lhotse and increases your chances of a safe and successful ascent.

Reaching the summit of Mount Lhotse demands specialized gear designed to withstand the extreme conditions of the Himalayas. Under PK Sherpa’s expert leadership, we ensure you are fully equipped with everything needed for a safe and successful climb.

To secure your spot on the Mount Lhotse Expedition, a 30% deposit is required at the time of booking. Once confirmed, an additional 40% must be paid at least one month before your arrival in Nepal. The remaining balance is due upon your arrival in Nepal. Payments can be made via cash or credit card, with any associated bank charges for credit card payments being the responsibility of the participant.

Cancellation Charges

  • 45 Days Notice: Cancellations made at least 45 days before arrival will incur a 25% charge of the total land tour cost.
  • 30 Days Notice: Cancellations made at least 30 days before arrival will incur a 50% charge of the total land tour cost.
  • 15 Days Notice: Cancellations made at least 15 days before arrival will incur an 80% charge of the total land tour cost.

For cancellations within 15 days of arrival, you may postpone your trip with an additional 10% fee added to the total cost. Cancellations after this period will also require an extra 20% fee for postponing.

Additional Cancellation Costs

  • Internal/Cross-Country Flights: Subject to airline policies.
  • Luxury Hotel Bookings: Cancellations will follow the specific hotel’s terms.

For your safety and peace of mind during the Mount Lhotse Expedition, Rise Expeditions requires all participants to have comprehensive travel insurance. Your policy should cover helicopter evacuations, medical emergencies, trip cancellations, lost luggage, theft, and other potential risks. We strongly advise purchasing insurance in your home country, as foreigners cannot buy insurance in Nepal.
