OVERVIEW

The Kanchenjunga Expedition brings mountaineers to the world’s third-highest peak, Kanchenjunga, which stands at 8,586 meters. It is located in the eastern part of Nepal, in the Taplejung district, and is bounded to the west by the Tamur River, to the north by the Lhonak River and Jongsang La, and to the east by the Teesta River. It is located on the border between Nepal and India.

The name “Kanchenjunga” is derived from the Tibetan words “Kanchen” and “Dzonga,” which together translate to “The Five Treasures of the Great Snows.” This name is derived from the five peaks within the Kanchenjunga massif: Kanchenjunga I (8,586m), Kanchenjunga West (8,505m), Kanchenjunga South (8,494m), and Kangbachen (7,903m).

The first ascent of Kanchenjunga was made on 25 May 1955 by a British team led by George Band and Joe Brown, marking a turning point in mountaineering history. Renowned for its tough technical challenges, Kanchenjunga is recognized as one of the most difficult mountains to climb. The Kanchenjunga Expedition provides the opportunity to scale this amazing peak and enjoy the stunning scenery of eastern Nepal, the vast biodiversity of the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, and the captivating attractions along the expedition route.
