You need to collect your passport for the restricted area Naar Phu Valley permits and our office staff in the paperwork in the evening at dinner time the guide handover your passport.

Day 03Drive towards Pokhara, before turning into the Marsyangdi Valley to follow the Marsyangdi River. Overnight at Jagat (1300 m).

In the early morning, after breakfast, we will begin on a drive towards the western part of Nepal to start our trek. Our trek crew will go with us. We will travel along the Prithivi Highway, leaving behind the town of Muglin and reaching Dumre, beside the Marsyangdi River. From here, we will head north on a narrow road that follows the river. We will stop for lunch at a roadside restaurant along the way. Our journey continues along the river until we reach Besishahar, the headquarters of the Lamjung district, and then will transfer by jeep onto Jagat. We will overnight accommodation at Jagat. It will be a long journey. Depending on the road conditions it will take us 9-10 hrs by Bus and Jeep.

Day 04Trek Via kholagaon, Chyamche (Chamje), and Tal to Dharapani (1860m)

Today, we begin our trek, although the road continues to the Manang Village and Khangsar, its condition is very rough it is worth the trek from here. On the other hand, beginning the trek from here helps us to easily acclimatize. There is the old trekking trail. We will take that old trekking trail somewhere we will need to take a motorable route. From Jagat, we start with a steady climb to Chamje (1340m). You will descend the steps towards the Tal (1700m) and cross the river via the suspension bridge. Beyond Tal again crossing the river and continuing to Dharapani (1860m). The trek from Jagat to Chyamche takes 30 min over 2 and a half km. Then, it takes 2 and a half hours to cover 4 and a half km to Tal, and finally, it takes 3 hours to cover 6 km to Dharapani. In total, we trek for 7 hours covering 15 km. We will overnight accommodation at Dharapani.

Day 05Trek from Dharapani to Koto (2600m) with a good view of Manaslu.

Dudh Khola, a tributary of the Marsyangdi River, confluences at Dharapani, where the Manaslu circuit route meets with the Annapurna circuit trail. The Marsyangdi River then turns westward. As we follow the river along the Annapurna circuit trails, we pass through the interesting Buddhist village of Bagarchap. As we trek up, Mt. Manaslu (8163m) is visible behind us, and the valley turns westward. Annapurna II (7937 m) is occasionally visible on our left hand as we walk along the inside the pine jungle roadside. We meet many village trails and pass through isolated tea houses en route to our overnight accommodation in Koto (2600m). The trek from Dharapani to Koto covers 13km and takes approximately 6 hours.

Day 06Leave the Annapurna circuit and trek through the gorge of the Naar Phu Khola to Meta (3560 m)

We need to present our permits at a checkpoint in Koto, a small village on the Annapurna Circuit route. From there, we diverge from the main trail Annapurna Circuit Trail and follow the narrow and steep canyon of the Naar Phu Khola, a river that flows from the Tibetan border. We trek on the western side of the river, through a forest of pine and fir trees, and pass by several seasonal settlements used by the locals of Naar and Phu during the winter months. The scenery is very different from the Annapurna Circuit trail, and we hardly meet any other trekkers in this remote and restricted area. We stop for lunch at the cave and then resume our hike, which involves mostly ups, some sections of cliff-side and narrow trails carved from the rock. We arrive at our lodge in Meta, a village situated at an elevation of 3560 m and overnight accommodation here. Today, we will ascend 960 m in elevation, which will require 6 to 7 hours of walking and will cover approximately 13 km.

Day 07Acclimatization Day in Meta (3560 m)

Meta is a village situated at an elevation of 3560 m, surrounded by snow-capped peaks and eroded cliffs. It is one of the first settlements in the Nar Phu Valley, a remote and restricted area that was only opened to trekkers in 2002. Meta is a good place to spend an extra day to acclimatize to the altitude and enjoy the scenery. We have two options: relax at the lodge and explore the nearby surroundings take a challenging hike to above Meta at an elevation of 4200 m or hike more than that. The trail passes through a forest of juniper trees and then crosses a barren ridge with spectacular views of the Phu Valley and the Annapurna range.  The hike also helps to prepare us for the higher altitudes that lie ahead in the trek. After the hike, we returned to Meta and spent a second night in the lodge.

Day 08Trek from Meta to Chyako (3720 m)

Today will be a relatively short day, as the only place (before Phu) with suitable lodge accommodation is Chyako, located at an altitude of about 3720m. We will follow the Phu Khola on a fairly level or gently rising trail to the small ‘Tibetan’ village of Chyako, which we will reach in time for lunch at our lodge accommodation. Chyako is an important place where you will visit the Naar Pa Bhumi Rural municipality office, Nepal Rastriya Banijya Bank (RBB), the Buddha Statute, and old civilization. After lunch at afternoon will be free for us to relax or explore. Chyako is a picturesque village with stone houses, prayer flags, and a Buddhist monastery that offers a view of the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas.

The people of Chyako are known as Phuwas, and they speak a dialect of Tibetan that is different from the one spoken in Phu. They have a rich and unique culture that includes festivals, dances, songs, and rituals. It is also a good place to observe the local culture and lifestyle of the people, who are mostly farmers and herders. To cover the 8km distance, we will take 3 to 4 hours and stay overnight at the accommodation in Chyako.

Day 09Trek from Chyako, following the river gorge and riverside to the main settlement of Phu (4200m).

From here, the trail becomes steeper as we climb up to Kyang (3887m), a village with a long Mani wall at 3800m. Kyang is located on a plateau high above the Phu Khola, a river that flows through the Nar-Phu valley. Kyang is the main winter settlement of the people of Phu, who are ethnically Tibetan and speak a distinct language. We may be lucky enough to see a part of the annual migration when a family moves down from the high pastures with its yaks – a scene from ancient Tibet! Continuing another exciting section of trail, carved into the walls of the river gorge, we descend to the river itself. A little further on, our progress is blocked by another rocky bluff, and we are forced to trek up out of the gorge, via several mani walls and chortens, to reach the Phuohi Yalgoe or ‘Phu gate’. Beyond this ancient stone gateway, we get our first view of the three villages of Phu with the impressive ruins of forts on the skyline above. These forts were built to defend the valley from invaders and are now protected as cultural heritage sites. It will take around five hours of trekking to reach Phu from Chyako and we will be able to have a late lunch at our lodge, with the remainder of the day free to explore this amazing village with its comparatively unspoilt ancient culture and architecture. The remote settlement of Phu consists of around more than 40 stone-built houses in the Tibetan style and is home to more than 150 people. Also, you can encounter modern-style houses where we will be accommodated. Pupigyal Kwe is a monastery which is situated on the right side of Phu village and is the main attraction where we will visit. Phu is a fascinating place to witness the traditional lifestyle and customs of the Nar-Phu people, who practice a form of Buddhism mixed with animism and shamanism.

Day 10Trek from Phu Gaun to Ratna Chuli Base Camp

Following the early morning breakfast at Phu, we will trek to Ratna Chuli Base Camp.

It lies at Jimbu Kharka at an elevation of 4702m where we set up our tents, acclimatize and make our final preparations in base camp.

Day 26Trek to Metha (3560 m)

We backtrack from the Phu Gate and follow the same route down the valley. Along the way, we stop for lunch at either Chyako or Junam Goth (3650m), a temporary village that serves as a base for yak herders and trekkers. After having lunch, we will continue our trek to Metha, where you will overnight stay.

Day 27Trek from Metha to Koto (2600 m)

Following the early breakfast at Metha, we will descend to Koto following the same route. We will pause along the way for Lunch. After having lunch, our steps continue to Koto where we will stay overnight and officially our trek will end here. The very next morning, we will drive to Besishar.

Day 28Drive from Koto along the way Marsyangdi River through Dharapani to Beshishar (760m)

We have come back to the place where the Naar-Phu Khola meets the Marsyangdi River, Today marks the end of our trekking adventure, as we follow the Marsyangdi River Valley downhill at a gentle pace, crossing Dharapani and reach a wider and flatter part of the valley to Beshishar.

Day 29Drive back to Kathmandu, arriving in the late afternoon. Celebratory dinner in a local restaurant.

After an early breakfast, Besisahar, we switch to a bus and continue our drive on an improving road down the Marsyangdi River Valley to its confluence with the Trisuli. Here, we pick up the main Pokhara to Kathmandu Road for the final part of our journey. Today’s drive is a long one; a 6 or 7-hour journey, we will arrive in Kathmandu in the late afternoon. After checking in at the group hotel, we have time to rest and freshen, before going out for a celebratory evening meal in one of Kathmandu’s finest restaurants.
