Immigration offices under the Department of Immigration facilitate tourists flying to Nepal by providing a Visa on Arrival. The procedure is quick and straightforward, though you may encounter queues during peak tourist season. To avoid these queues, consider obtaining a visa from Nepalese Diplomatic Missions abroad before your arrival.
If you acquire a visa from a Nepalese Diplomatic Mission, you must enter Nepal within six months of the visa issuance date. Your total stay is counted from the day you enter Nepal.
Visas obtained on arrival at entry and exit points are Tourist Visas, which allow multiple re-entries. This is the only entry visa to Nepal. If you visit Nepal for purposes other than tourism (such as sightseeing, tours, mountaineering, trekking, or visiting friends and family), you must still obtain a Tourist Visa to enter the country. However, you must change the visa category according to your purpose and length of stay from the Department of Immigration by providing the required documents.
Citizens of the following countries must acquire a visa from their nearest Nepalese Diplomatic Mission before arrival:
If you have not acquired a visa before boarding, follow these steps for a Tourist Visa on Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA):

Visas of all kinds, including ‘Gratis,’ issued at the airport are Tourist Visas. For visa extensions or category changes, contact the Department of Immigration. Tourist Visa extensions can also be done at the Immigration Office in Pokhara. Non-tourist visa extensions (if eligible) are done only at the Department of Immigration for a maximum period of one year (except for business visas).
